Tour program:
This tour to Alcatraz starts from the visit to the picturesque fishing quay, where boats reach the island. You will make a pleasant trip to the island by boat, enjoying an amazing view of the city. Reaching the island, you will go to the hill, where the prison is located, which functioned till the beginning of the century, but is closed now.
You will have the unique opportunity for personal inspection of the cells, dining room and even the isolator, where famous Al Capone was contained, as well as other visitors of the same sort of people. You will learn a lot of interesting facts about this island, inhabited long time ago, and its history. For example, about 34 prisoners tried to escape from it, and in 1962 the most famous escape of Morris and Anglins took place, their fate is still unknown.
On the observation deck you can enjoy view of the city, its bridges, islands and pelicans, which this place was named after. Now Alcatraz is included into the US National Reserves System.
Note: It is better to book tickets beforehand, because in high season they can be reserved for a month ahead.
